- Karimul Haq, fondly known as “Ambulance Dada,” is a remarkable individual whose story exemplifies compassion, resilience, and the power of determination. Living in a small village in West Bengal, Karimul’s life took a tragic turn in 1995 when he lost his mother due to the lack of ambulance services and medical facilities in his remote area. The nearest hospital was 40 kilometers away, and without timely transportation, his mother couldn’t receive the care she needed in time. This heartbreaking event left Karimul devastated, but it also ignited a burning resolve in him. He vowed that no one else in his village would face the same fate and decided to become a lifeline for the community.
- With limited resources at his disposal, Karimul turned his motorbike into an ambulance. Initially, he would transport patients by placing them on the back of his bike, rushing through rough terrain and difficult roads to reach the hospital. However, over time, he realized the need for a more secure and comfortable solution for patients. With a bit of creativity, he crafted a side trolley to attach to his bike, allowing patients to lie down comfortably during the journey. This makeshift ambulance became a beacon of hope for people in and around his village.
- Over the years, Karimul Haq has transported more than 7,000 people to the hospital, saving lives that would have otherwise been lost due to the lack of accessible medical care. His extraordinary efforts have earned him the love and respect of his community, and his work reached national recognition when he was awarded the Padma Shri, one of India’s highest civilian honors, in 2017. This prestigious award highlights the bravery and selflessness Karimul has displayed in his mission to save lives, day in and day out, for over two decades.
- Despite his tireless efforts, the 40-kilometer distance to the nearest hospital remains a major challenge. Many lives are still at risk due to the time it takes to reach medical help, and Karimul knows this all too well. To address this, he has started constructing a hospital in his village, bringing critical healthcare services closer to home. This hospital would not only save lives but also ease the burden on families who currently have to travel long distances for treatment.
- However, the construction of the hospital is still incomplete due to financial constraints. Karimul Haq is now reaching out for help from generous individuals who believe in his cause. He has saved thousands of lives with limited resources, but now he needs support to complete the hospital that will serve as a permanent solution for his community. Every donation, big or small, brings Karimul one step closer to fulfilling his dream of building a hospital and ensuring that no one else has to experience the pain of losing a loved one due to a lack of medical facilities.
- Karimul’s journey is a testament to the power of one person’s determination to make a difference. By supporting his mission, you are not only honoring his incredible legacy but also helping save countless lives in the future. Please consider donating to help Ambulance Dada build his hospital and continue his lifesaving work.
