“What broke me from within is the fact that people ignore such incidents and move ahead in their lives without taking any action,” says Ritika, from Life for Strays Foundation, while being asked about the pain that stray dogs go through. Dogs, also known as dog’s best friend, sadly this term has lost its meaning today. This term has been lost in mankind’s selfish, ruthless and ignorant lives. From “living in harmony” to “Dogs don’t belong in our world” our entire motive of protecting the voiceless has now taken a back seat.
Today, countless dogs on the street roam without food, water and sometimes even without good health. Sometimes they have to suffer in the chilling cold weather, whereas sometimes they have to bear the brunt of the harsh heat during summers. Not just that, but their ultimate test of survival comes to halt during the rainy season when the entire road is filled with water. If this wasn’t enough harm to them, today they have to protect themselves from us, us humans. From acid being thrown on them, to kids throwing big stones to shut them away to vehicles being run over these animals, we have failed as a society. While in all of this, there is still a ray of hope, and still a tiny whisper that says, “If not I then who? If not now then when will we save these innocent lives?” and that is the voice of a lady named Ritika.
Started in the year 2020, Ritika and Akash started Life For Strays Foundation that rescued dogs in pain and helped them have a better home for themselves. They not only made sure the dogs got enough medical treatments but also filled their wounds with love and immense hope. With just 10 rescued dogs today their foundation has around 150 dogs that at our place that long to be healed! As much as they are grateful in starting this foundation, their major concern also seeps in.
With so many to be taken care of, they also need enough funds that can help them continue this noble work. There are various needs like, a bigger accommodation, food, proper blankets, better medical services and most importantly vehicles that can help them reach the injured and needy dogs as soon as possible. “Today all though we are able to rescue these dogs, we want to make it our goal that no dog goes on to live with pain and injury. We want to help them recover and give them a better life, whatever number of days they have to live, we want to make sure we give them the best.” – Akash
