In the heart of Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, lies a shelter run by New Public Seva Samiti, an organization dedicated to giving hope to those who have been discarded by society. The shelter is home to over 100 elderly individuals, each with a heartbreaking story of abandonment. These elderly souls have been cruelly thrown out of their homes by their own families, left to fend for themselves in the streets. But thanks to the tireless efforts of S.M. Pandey, the director of New Public Seva Samiti, these abandoned elders have found a safe haven where they can live with dignity.
S.M. Pandey has made it his life’s mission to ensure that no elderly person suffers the agony of hunger and homelessness. The shelter home he oversees provides more than just a roof over their heads. The organization offers three essential services: shelter, nutritious meals, and medical care to those in need. Pandey, along with his team, understands that the elderly deserve to live their golden years with respect and care, despite being abandoned by their loved ones.
However, the challenges faced by New Public Seva Samiti are immense. Pandey reveals that every day, new elderly people arrive at the shelter, seeking refuge from their painful circumstances. Most of these individuals have been forsaken by their children, left with nowhere to turn. “It is heart-wrenching to see so many elderly people cast aside by their families,” says Pandey. “We are doing everything we can to provide for them, but with the increasing number of residents, it has become extremely difficult to manage our expenses.”
The costs of running the shelter are substantial. Food, medicines, and basic supplies are needed daily, and as the number of residents grows, so do the expenses. Additionally, New Public Seva Samiti strives to offer more than just the bare necessities. To bring some joy and purpose into the lives of these elderly individuals, the organization arranges extracurricular activities, which help in their mental and emotional well-being.
Despite the organization’s noble efforts, Pandey fears that without sufficient public support, they may soon be forced to turn people away. “We want to continue helping as many elderly people as possible,” he says, “but we cannot do it alone. Without donations, it will be impossible for us to manage our services continuously, and we will have no choice but to stop taking in new residents.”
The plea for donations is urgent. Pandey emphasizes that every contribution, no matter how small, can make a significant difference in the lives of the elderly residents. “Your donation is important to us,” he urges, calling on the public to help sustain the shelter’s services. With enough support, New Public Seva Samiti can continue to provide the care, love, and attention these abandoned elderly individuals deserve, ensuring that no one is left to suffer alone on the streets.
By extending a helping hand, we can ensure that New Public Seva Samiti continues its crucial work in restoring hope and dignity to the lives of the elderly.
