Making the Difference is a Mumbai-based organization committed to fostering a pollution-free environment. Our mission is to raise awareness about environmental issues and take direct action to mitigate the harm caused by human activities. One of our most significant undertakings is the annual beach cleaning drive that we organize during and after the Ganpati Visarjan festival.

Ganpati Visarjan is a revered and joyous festival in Mumbai, where thousands of idols of Lord Ganesha are immersed in the sea or rivers. While this tradition is spiritually meaningful, it often results in severe pollution of our water bodies. The materials used to make these idols, along with other offerings, contain non-biodegradable substances like plaster of Paris, plastic, and harmful chemicals, which end up polluting the seas and rivers. These pollutants not only destroy marine ecosystems but also pose a direct threat to aquatic life, particularly fish and other marine species.

At Making the Difference, we have taken it upon ourselves to address this pressing issue. Every year, after Ganpati Visarjan, our team of dedicated volunteers embarks on beach cleaning drives across Mumbai to remove the remnants of the festival. From collecting broken idols to clearing away plastic waste and other debris, our efforts are aimed at restoring the natural beauty of our beaches and protecting the delicate marine life that depends on clean waters to thrive.

While our team is motivated and committed to the cause, we are currently facing a shortage of essential cleaning equipment.
