Adharshila Old Age Home, located in Prayagraj, stands as a beacon of hope for elderly people abandoned during the Kumbh Mela, a massive religious gathering that draws millions to the banks of the holy river. This organization, under the dedicated leadership of its director, Shashank, has taken on the responsibility of caring for over 120 senior citizens who were cruelly deserted by their families. According to Shashank, many children bring their parents to the Ghaat (riverbank) for the ritual bath of the holy snaan during the Kumbh, only to leave them behind. These elderly individuals, often confused and heartbroken, find themselves abandoned with no knowledge of how to reconnect with their families or where to go.
Adharshila Old Age Home rescues these abandoned elders, providing them with the care and compassion they need and deserve. Shashank and his team give them a safe place to live, where they are cared for with kindness and respect. The organization ensures that these elderly individuals receive proper medical care, a healthy and balanced diet, and comfortable accommodations. Beyond these physical needs, Adharshila also offers emotional support and love, which many of the elderly have been deprived of for years. This sense of belonging and care becomes their new family, something every elderly person craves and deserves in their twilight years.
Despite their unwavering commitment, Adharshila Old Age Home faces significant challenges. New rescues arrive almost daily, putting immense pressure on their resources. The cost of providing essential food items like rice, wheat flour, pulses, milk, and vegetables continues to rise, making it difficult for the organization to meet its daily requirements. Shashank appeals for help, stating that without sufficient funds, it is becoming increasingly challenging to ensure a stable supply of ration for these vulnerable elders.
Moreover, the old age home is in urgent need of solar panels. With the rising cost of electricity and frequent power outages, solar panels would provide a sustainable and cost-effective energy solution, helping them reduce operational costs and ensure uninterrupted services for their residents. However, the installation of these panels requires substantial financial support, which the organization currently lacks.
Adharshila Old Age Home is a lifeline for the elderly, offering them dignity, care, and a sense of belonging in their final years. But without external help, continuing this vital work is becoming increasingly difficult.
