She Could’ve Been Saved… But There Was No Ambulance.

When they first found her, Rano was crouched under a tree,  silent, trembling, and in unimaginable pain. A tumour had grown inside her stomach, so massive it looked like she was carrying a full-grown baby. But Rano wasn’t a mother.

Not biologically.

But to every baby monkey that entered the Karnal Rockstars shelter, she became one.
She would gently wrap her arms around the tiniest ones. Groom them, protect them, let them sleep on her back.

 She had no voice, but her actions spoke of deep love, the kind of love that didn’t need language to be understood. She gave them what she never received, warmth, safety, care.

The team remembers her as one of the kindest souls they ever rescued. And she had been with them for some time. Each day, they hoped the medicines would start working. That the swelling would reduce. That maybe… she’d start eating more. Sitting up again. That she’d stay.

But her condition was too far gone.

The doctors did their best. The team never left her side. But despite all the care and love they could give her… Rano didn’t survive. One morning, quietly and without struggle, she passed away.

And then came the words that cut even deeper than her loss. “If only she had come earlier… she could have lived.”

The founders broke down. Because they know the reason she didn’t come earlier.
Their only ambulance, the one they used to rescue monkeys from highways, electric poles, and villages was badly damaged in an accident. And without it, they’re helpless.

When a call comes in, they often have to scramble for private transport, or go on foot, wasting precious minutes. Minutes that could mean life or death.

They lost Rano not because they didn’t care, not because they didn’t try, but because they couldn’t get to her in time. Rano was more than just a monkey. She was gentle. She was giving. She was family.

And her death is a permanent wound in the hearts of the people who tried to save her. “No animal should lose their life because we couldn’t reach them,” they say.

And now, all they’re asking is this: Help us get a new ambulance.
So that no more Ranos are lost. So that every injured, scared, or orphaned monkey gets the chance she didn’t.
