This Diwali, Be Their Light, Not Their Fear

Every year as Diwali nears, the streets glow brighter,  but for hundreds of helpless dogs, those same lights mark the beginning of terror. 

While we celebrate with firecrackers and laughter, countless stray dogs run aimlessly in fear, their ears bursting from the unbearable sound, their hearts pounding in panic. Some hide under vehicles, some tremble in dark corners, and some… never make it through the night.

For most of us, Diwali is about togetherness, sweets, and celebration. But for these innocent souls, it’s about survival. Amidst all this, one man, the founder of 4Leg Care Foundation, continues to run from lane to lane, rescuing dogs that no one else stops for. 

He has seen dogs with burnt paws from firecrackers, puppies who lost their eyesight from explosions, and injured mothers crying for their babies who never came back.

He says, “When humans are hurt, they have homes, hospitals, and hands to hold them. But when these dogs are hurt, where do they go? Who do they cry to?”

That haunting question became the reason he started 4Leg Care Foundation, a safe haven for voiceless animals who are otherwise forgotten. What began as one man’s mission to help a few injured dogs has now turned into a full-time rescue foundation that saves and shelters dozens of wounded and abandoned strays every month.

But as Diwali approaches, the number of rescue calls multiplies, and so does their helplessness.

Many of these dogs come with severe burns, fractured bones, and trauma that takes weeks, sometimes months to heal. The foundation ensures they receive timely medical care, nutritious food, and above all, love, something most of them have never known before.

But with every rescue, the expenses grow heavier.  Vet bills, medicines, food, transportation, and shelter upkeep.

This Diwali, while most people decorate their homes with diyas, 4Leg Care Foundation decorates their shelter with rescued lives, each dog’s wagging tail being a sign of hope restored. Yet, the founder admits, “Every time I have to say no to a rescue because we don’t have enough funds, it feels like I failed another life.”
