Project:
This Ekadashi and Makar Sankranti, as we celebrate fasting, gratitude, and the harvest, our hearts are drawn to the most innocent beings, our gaumatas. While the world lights up with kites, prayers, and feasts, countless cows are still trapped in suffering, abandoned, or wounded, waiting silently for someone to care for them. Their eyes tell stories of pain that words cannot fully capture, eyes that once trusted, now clouded with fear, exhaustion, and pain.
At Shyama Gauseva Foundation, I see this every single day. I remember a beautiful gaumata who had fallen into a deep pit at a construction site. Her stomach was injured from falling debris, and she struggled to survive. For 17 long days, we did everything we could, tending her wounds, feeding her carefully, staying by her side, praying for her life.
Each day felt like a lifetime of hope and fear intertwined. Despite our relentless efforts, she passed away. Losing her was like losing a beloved family member, a hole left in our hearts that will never truly heal. Her life, like so many others, reminds us of the urgency of our mission.
Our gaumatas endure unimaginable suffering. They are abandoned, abused, and sometimes sold for slaughter, all while we continue to take their milk, benefiting from their lives even as we allow them to be harmed. It is a cruel paradox, one that weighs heavily on my heart every day. Each life lost, each wound inflicted, is a tragedy that could have been prevented with timely help and compassion.
The need of the hour is urgent. Time and again, we have tried to rescue injured cows ourselves, often driving them long distances, performing first aid with our limited resources. Many times, a proper ambulance could have saved lives that we were powerless to save.
This Ekadashi, as we honor restraint, compassion, and dharmic living, and this Makar Sankranti, as we celebrate the harvest and light, we appeal for your support to provide our gaumatas with the care they desperately need. An ambulance, food, medicine, and shelter can transform suffering into survival.
Your donation is more than charity; it is life itself. Every rupee you give will directly feed, heal, and protect our gaumatas, ensuring that no more lives are lost needlessly. Each life saved is a soul spared from suffering and a testament to our collective humanity.
This season, let your gratitude extend beyond our homes and tables, let it reach the silent, trusting eyes of our gaumatas. Join us in our mission to protect, heal, and honor these gentle beings. Because every gaumata deserves love, care, and a chance to live with dignity. This Ekadashi and Makar Sankranti, make your compassion count.
