Project:

Here we are, stepping into the 77th Republic Day of India. We are a nation that proudly calls itself the w0rld’s f0urth-largest ec0nomy. We are a country that speaks of growth, gl0bal leadership, and progress. And yet, across our cities, millions of our own people still go to sleep hungry, wake up unsure of whether they will get a single proper m#al, clean water, or a safe place to rest their heads.

This 26th January while some will  host Tiranga and fill the air with patr!0tic songs, there are countless lives f!ght!ng every day for basic survival.

Such is the story of two forgotten settlements in the heart of the capital Majnu Ka Tila and Signature Bridge camps. These are the places where hundreds of Pak!stan! H!ndu refug## families live in conditions that str!p them of dignity and hope. These families did not come here chasing comfort. They came here running from fear.

Most of these families fled Pak!stan after facing years of religious p#rs#cution, social hum!l!ation, and constant insecur!ty. One elderly man recalls,

Tum H!ndu ho, tum H!ndust@n jao.” Children were also bull!ed saying, “Tum H!ndu ho, H!ndust@n raho, yahan kyun rehte ho?” One person said,“Wahan bet!yon ki bahut buri dasha h0ti hai.” They cro$ed b0rders not for luxury but for safety, dignity, and the right to live without fear.

They came to Ind!a with hope in their hearts and faith in their eyes. They believed that this land would finally give them freedom and independ#nce. But today, many of them are still struggling for the most basic needs. Some of them have accepted the f@te of begging and some are struggling to get their basic needs met.

In the m!ddle of this suffer!ng, Manav Mandir Mission Trust came to their rescue. They quote, “Yeh log yahan bahut aastha ke saath aaye hain, ek swatantra aasman k neeche rehne k liye.” The organisation has opened its centres at both these camps. It runs remedial classes for children, vocational training programmes for women and youth, and livelihood programmes for adults. Through these efforts, the refu##s are being helped to realise their potential and move towards a life of dignity and self respect.

Nearly 250 families and around 900 people, are currently under the care and support of the Trust. Many of these families were also badly affected by the Yamuna fl0#ds which subm##ged their settlements and washed away whatever little they had. In this cr!s!s, Manav Mandir Mission Trust took the responsibility of distributing ration and essential supplies to the displaced refug##s.

The children who attend these classes come from families where survival often comes before schooling. Many of them were irregular in school, many had dropped out, and many had never even entered a classroom. Slowly, with patience and care, they are being brought back into the world of books and learning. Admissions are arranged according to their age and understanding.

For the women of these camps, life has always been about silent endurance. Through tailoring, stitching and embroidery training, Manav Mandir Mission Trust is helping them rediscover their self worth.

Manav Mandir Mission Trust believes, “Woh H!ndu ho ya Musl!m, mujhe farq nahi padta. Koi bhi insaan agar peed!t aur shosh!t hai, main uske liye khada rahunga.”

It is pa!nful to accept that the people who left one country because they were told they did not belong there are still fighting to belong here. They came dreaming of freedom. Today, they are still asking for food.

This Republic Day, as we celebrate our Const!tut!on and our democracy, we must also look at those for whom freedom is still incomplete.

Manav Mandir Mission Trust continues this work with limited resources and endless responsibility. “Boond boond se sagar banta hai.” Your small contribution can become someone’s meal, someone’s education, someone’s chance to live with dignity.

Sometimes, it does not take much to change a life, it just takes a hand that refuses to look away. Let us come together and show our support to Manav Mandir Mission Trust and be the change we want to see. Donate now!
