Forced Out Of Kashmir, Now This Kashmiri Pandit Family Is Trapped In Poverty & Illness..

There are some wounds time never heals. For many Kashmiri Pandit families, life changed forever the day they were forced to leave behind their homes, memories, and the only world they had ever known. Among those forgotten stories of pain is the heartbreaking life of Trishala Devi and her daughter Soni.

Years ago, during the Kashmir exodus, this small family was uprooted from their home and pushed into a life of uncertainty. Like countless others, they sought shelter wherever they could- sometimes in temples, sometimes in temporary spaces that never truly felt like home. But what was meant to be a temporary struggle slowly turned into a lifetime of suffering.

Today, in Jammu, Trishala Devi and Soni are surviving in conditions no human should ever have to endure.

Soni was just six years old when tragedy took away her childhood forever. Her father fell critically ill, and at an age when children should be playing with toys and going to school, Soni was forced to witness pain no child should ever see. She even had to clean her father’s toilet waste with her tiny hands, because there was no one else to help. Soon after, her father passed away.

From that day, Soni’s entire world became her mother. Now, the only family she has left- her mother Trishala Devi is fighting severe health complications including a neurological disorder, dangerously high blood pressure, and severe anemia. Her condition is so critical that during BP episodes, blood often comes from her mouth and nose. Yet Soni has stood by her side through every terrifying moment.

She never chose marriage, never thought of building a life for herself, because one question has always stopped her-“If I leave, who will take care of my mother?”

She does not go out for work because her mother cannot be left alone. There are days when there is barely any food in the house, but Soni quietly sleeps hungry just so her mother does not have to. She starves but never lets her mother go a day without food. 

Today, Trishala Devi urgently needs treatment, medicines, and basic support to survive. But poverty has left this mother-daughter duo with no way forward.

With folded hands and tearful eyes, Soni says,
“My mother is the only family I have left. Please help us in any way possible. I pray that God blesses every helping hand with love, peace, and happiness.”
