A Home for 37 Abandoned Specially-Abled Children Who Only Need Love

Here at Prabhat, every child carries a story of pain, abandonment, and survival. One such story is of a specially-abled girl who went through unimaginable horror. She was raped by a truck driver and thrown into garbage as if her life had no value. Due to her intellectual disability and deep trauma, she could not even understand what had happened to her. For a long time, she pointed at every man she saw and said, “He did this to me.” Fear had consumed her entire world.

It took nearly two years of constant love, therapy, patience, and rehabilitation to help her slowly come out of that trauma. She had to be taught how to trust people again, how to eat properly, how to express herself, and how to live with a sense of safety. Sadly, her story is just one among many.

Founded by Ankit Nayyar, Prabhat – An Awakening has been caring for 37 specially-abled abandoned children with intellectual disabilities and multiple challenges for more than a decade. These are children who were left to die by their own families because of their mental disorders, inability to communicate, or severe developmental conditions.

Every child in this shelter has a different story of sadness.Some were abandoned on roads. Some were rescued after facing abuse. Some still search for answers no child should ever have to ask:“Why did my parents leave me?” “Where is my family?”

Because these children process emotions, speech, and reactions differently, healing them requires a completely different and deeply compassionate approach. Many of them cannot even eat on their own due to a lack of socialization, neglect, and long-term trauma. They need constant supervision, emotional reassurance, psychiatric care, and specialized attention every single day.

For them, Prabhat is not just a shelter. It is their only home. Their only family. Their only safe space.

However, caring for children with such diverse medical, emotional, and developmental needs comes with significant expenses. Along with food and daily essentials, they need psychiatric medicines, therapy support, hygiene care, trained caregivers, and round-the-clock supervision.
