Dog Home Foundation, India’s first camel shelter, stands as a beacon of hope for camels who have been paralyzed, injured in accidents, victims of cruelty, or abandoned by their owners. With a capacity to house up to 100 camels, the foundation is currently caring for over 70 camels, providing them with essential medical treatment, food, and other necessary care. These gentle giants, many of whom are unable to survive in the wild due to severe injuries or disabilities, find a safe and loving environment at the foundation, where their needs are met by a dedicated team.

The foundation is committed to rescuing animals in need and operates around the clock to ensure that no animal is left suffering. One recent and heartbreaking case involved a camel that had been severely injured in a horrific accident. During the preparation for Diwali, someone set up a firecracker in a wheat field. The unsuspecting camel, while grazing, ingested the firecracker, which exploded in its mouth. The blast caused multiple fractures in the camel’s lower jaw, and its tongue was gravely damaged. Despite the excruciating pain and suffering, the Dog Home Foundation traveled 100 kilometers to rescue the camel and bring it to their shelter, where it is now receiving care.

The foundation is preparing for the complex surgery needed to repair the damage caused by the explosion. However, with the increasing number of rescues, resources are stretched thin. This Diwali, the foundation is in urgent need of funds to continue providing life-saving care to not only this camel but to all the animals under their protection.
