“I was at work when I got a call saying my son is being rushed to the hospital as he met with an accident. I couldn’t quite understand what happened, my brain was numb and I rushed to him. It wasn’t even an hour since I left him and everything changed when I saw him again.”
On 27th March 2020, Khursheed and Mohaseena’s little boy met with an accident. A speeding Buffalo hit him and he had a severe injury to his head leading to profuse bleeding.
It’s been 4 years, but our son’s life has paused since
The family lives in an interior village in Meerut. After the accident, the parents took him to a local hospital where he got stitches on his head and was given medication. But within a few days, his legs started to shiver and slowly he started getting fits very often, so much so that he had to discontinue his education.
“It’s been 4 years since the accident but our son’s life has paused since. He was such an active boy with so many dreams and hobbies but now, he is confined to this house. Though he can walk and do everything on his own, he has no control over his urine or stool. To add to it, he has unpredictable and uncontrollable fits that stop him from living his life. ”- Mohaseena, mother
Only a surgery can give him a second chance at normal life
Umer has been diagnosed with Cavernous Angioma and Sturge-Weber Syndrome. Traumatic brain injury due to the accident has caused an internal injury, leaking blood into the surrounding brain or spinal cord tissue which is causing ongoing neurological problems.
He also has enlarged gums due to which is is unable to eat properly.
There is only one solution for the condition- Surgery and it will cost them 8.5 Lakh rupees.
I am just a daily wager
The parents left no stone unturned to seek a solution but now, despite having a solution right in front of them, they are failing to give it to their child. They spent the last 4 years consulting different doctors and getting him suggested medication. In the process, they also spent their lifetime savings.
“We are poor and could only do so much. I am a labourer with a daily wage of 500 rupees. We tried to save as much as possible and even skipped meals but despite using up every single rupee of our savings of Rs 2 Lakhs, he is far behind on his treatment. We are unable to afford the surgery that can help him lead a normal life.” Khursheed, father
Umer has siblings but they are way too young to understand anything that is happening. All they want is to go to school with their brother and go out to play together.
“Whenever he has his episodes of fits, we try our best that none of the children are scared. We put medicine in his mouth and wait for 10-15 minutes for the fits to subside. And this happens 5-7 times each day. Our son is so scared all the time and I don’t want him to continue living like this. We want to give him a normal life and this surgery can make it happen. But we can’t afford it.” – Mohaseena, mother
With the surgery, Umer can end his 4-year-long struggle. He can continue his education and live a life full of dreams. You can help him achieve that.
Your contribution will help the family afford Umer’s surgery and give him the chance he needs to resume his long paused life.
