At 80 years old, Pratima Devi is a remarkable woman who has dedicated the last decade of her life to caring for over 250 stray dogs in the heart of Delhi. Originally from Kolkata, Pratima has lived a life marked by compassion and an unwavering commitment to the well-being of animals that have been abandoned or subjected to cruelty by their owners. Her life revolves around these furry companions, whom she lovingly refers to as her “family” and “sons.”
Pratima Devi’s shelter is a makeshift haven under a shed in Delhi, where she and her 250+ dogs reside. This humble abode, however, has faced numerous challenges. Recently, her home was demolished by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, leaving her and the dogs in a precarious situation. Despite her age, Pratima has tirelessly begged around the city to secure food and resources for her dogs. But as the years go by, her ability to continue this strenuous task has diminished, and she now struggles to meet their daily needs.
Pratima’s greatest worry is the future of her dogs. She fears that if something were to happen to her, there would be no one left to care for them, leaving them vulnerable and alone. To secure a safer and more permanent solution for her beloved dogs, Pratima hopes to build a permanent home on a small piece of land she owns in Faridabad. This dream, however, requires resources beyond her current means, and she is in desperate need of support to make it a reality.
Her monthly expenses, which are essential to the survival of these dogs, are primarily covered by donations from local people. Some days bring hope when she receives enough food for her furry companions, while on other days, they are left hungry, and Pratima herself goes to bed with an empty stomach, sharing in their suffering. She selflessly prioritizes their well-being above her own, viewing these dogs as her true family.
Pratima Devi’s dedication to these animals is both inspiring and heart-wrenching. Her love and care have given these dogs a second chance at life, but the challenges she faces are overwhelming, particularly as she grows older. Pratima urgently needs help to continue her mission and to ensure that her dogs have a safe and permanent home.
Your support can make a profound difference in Pratima’s life and the lives of her 250 dogs. By donating, you can help her secure the resources needed to build a permanent shelter in Faridabad, providing these dogs with a safe and loving environment where they can live out their days in peace. Pratima Devi’s selfless devotion deserves to be recognized and supported, ensuring that her family of dogs can survive and thrive for years to come.
