Project:
In 2021, the Sahadeva Foundation embarked on a mission that would change the lives of many residents in Dhuli. This journey began when the foundation learned of a tragic incident: a child had died due to contaminated water. Investigating the circumstances further, they discovered that the entire community relied on a single natural water source, a pond. This pond was not only used by the people of Dhuli but also by animals, making it a source of drinking water, a place for bathing, and a spot for cleaning utensils. The water from this pond was far from safe, posing serious health risks to everyone in the area.
The foundation was deeply moved by the situation and decided that no one in Dhuli should suffer or die because of a lack of clean water. With a steadfast commitment to this cause, they began distributing 20-liter water jars to 20 families. This initiative was the beginning of a significant transformation in the community.
The need for clean water, especially in the scorching summer months, became more evident as the days passed. Recognizing the critical nature of their work, the Sahadeva Foundation expanded their efforts. They increased the number of families receiving water jars to 40, then 60, 90, and eventually 150. The numbers have continued to grow as more families in the basti express their need for clean water.
The significance of this initiative cannot be overstated. Clean water is a fundamental human necessity. While a person can survive for several days without food, they cannot survive without water. The foundation’s work has not only provided immediate relief but has also brought a sense of security and hope to the community.
However, the challenges facing Dhuli are not limited to water contamination. The air quality in the area is also compromised due to a nearby coal mine, exacerbating the health risks for residents. The dual threats of contaminated water and polluted air underscore the urgent need for continued support and resources.
The Sahadeva Foundation is now calling for donations to sustain and expand their water distribution efforts. They aim to ensure that every resident in the basti has access to clean water and that no one has to sleep thirsty. The foundation’s plea is simple but profound: with your support, they can deliver more water to the community, safeguarding the health and well-being of Dhuli’s residents.
