In a world where people are running behind money, fame and many more things, here we have an old man only asking to live in a house that gives him respect and dignity. Why such a demand? Probably this was something he never had in his life or probably his family must have disowned him a while back, leaving him on the streets for weeks, months or even years.

Alone, and without hope, this was just one of the elderly people that we witnessed. Today there are so many of them on the streets whom people don’t even want to be close to. They are often given food, food that is not even given to them in their hands but rather kept aside, near the dirt.  What must have they done in their life that they deserve such in human treatment? One wonders. For such people, people without any hope and respect left in the society, there is a man who wants to accept these elderly people as his own mother and father.

Devendra Kshirsagar, the man who founded this organisation called Sahyadri Foundation. What he believes is one of the reasons why these elderly people who were hurt not just emotionally but mentally and physically have now gotten to taste an act of love, a place where they are accepted with open arms, a place of healing and a place of immense comfort to their souls. Sahyadri Foundation looks after 150 elderly people for free. They do their best in providing them with food, shelter, clothing and most importantly love. For someone to do this work once is a big thing but to stay and do this forever takes courage, selflessness and dignity which Devendra and his team has been doing. 

Today, those same people who felt like this was their life, life lived on the streets, terribly hurt and mostly in pain, have smiles, contentment and hope in their eyes. This all because of this foundation. Sadly today, although they are happy, their happiness is now at stake. Taking care of so many people and providing them with basic needs unfortunately comes at a cost. A cost that is beyond Devendra’s ability to provide. Hence, today he needs your support. With your support, he can continue this work and rescue even more people who are in need.
