“When they are born into this world, they are welcomed with such joy! But what about the time they need to have their final rites? They are left all alone. Without anybody to care, or even identify them…”
Says Pooja Sharma with tears in her eyes. Pooja Sharma, a middle class girl from Delhi who is doing something that nobody would have imagined including herself. Pooja cremates the unidentified bodies and gives them a dignified farewell. All of this happened when Pooja lost her mother in 2019. This was a rough patch in her life but this wasn’t all, she lost her only brother just three years later.

Pooja then broke the silence and the tradition of only men needing to be allowed to the cremation. She says, “That was the day when I took my brother’s ashes and smeared it on my face! That was when I realised how important the final rites are…” That’s exactly when Pooja knew that she had a purpose in life. For all those people who had no one to burn them and give their souls a peaceful farewell, Pooja stepped in. From carrying their bodies on her own shoulders, to keeping the woods, praying for them, and burning their bodies, Pooja did it all!

Today, no matter what the world thinks, Pooja believes in giving those unclaimed bodies the respect and dignity that they deserve, and she is not backing down. Although her might and her will power is strong today she finds herself at cross roads. The amount of money involved in arranging for the equipment like wood, ghee, cloths etc is out of Pooja’s reach. Pooja also takes the body’s ashes and submerges near Haridwars… Pooja is definitely doing something that nobody would have imagined, not only does she help those unidentified bodies have a dignified farewell, but she is also actively involved in helping poor people who cannot carry out all these tasks by themselves.

Despite all her hard work and pure intentions, Pooja still wants to continue this work. But for that she needs your help. She daily helps 20-30 bodies have their final rites, and the number only increases. With your donations, she can do this noble work without worrying about what she needs to arrange or when she can stop.
Your donations will make a huge difference to not only Pooja but also the work that she does, the unclaimed bodies that belong to the poor community will have their souls rest in peace with your donations. Kindly donate and help Pooja Sharma continue this work.
