Project:
“Shivratri is the sacred festival of the God of Gods, Mahadev. It is celebrated to honour Bhole Baba, his cosmic energy, and his role as the protector and destroyer of evil. On this night, devotees observe fasts, offer prayers, and seek blessings for strength, peace, and guidance. Nandi Maharaj, the vahan of Bhole Baba, holds a very special place on Shivratri, as no worship of Mahadev is considered complete without paying respect to Nandi Maharaj.
On this auspicious day, devotees gently touch Nandi Maharaj and whisper their wishes into his ears, believing that he carries their prayers directly to Bhole Baba. Nandi Maharaj is seen as the bridge between the devotee and Mahadev, symbolising patience, faith, and unconditional devotion. This deep respect shown in temples reflects how sacred he is in our culture.
In India, we vow to protect our cows and Nandi Maharaj. We give them the status of god, we worship them, and we speak proudly about their importance in our culture. Yet the reality outside temples tells a very different story. Today, Nandi Maharaj and Gau Mata are suffering. Not because of fate. Because of us humans.
Across the country, there is hardly a single place where abandoned cattle are not seen wandering on roads, eating garbage, plastic, and trash. They search for food in kachra, get injured in accidents, and suffer silently while we look the other way. Despite calling them sacred, we treat them as if they have no value once they stop serving human needs.
I am Haribhai Parmar, the founder of Shri Siddharth Gaushala. Serving Nandi Maharaj and cow mother is not just a responsibility for me, it is my life’s purpose. At present, our gaushala is home to 235 Nandi Maharaj and 415 cow mothers. Every day, we strive to provide them with food, medical care, and a safe shelter where they can live with dignity.
On an average, we receive four to five calls daily for urgent rescue of injured or abandoned Nandi Maharaj and cow mother. While our intention is always to help, the reality is painful. Due to limited resources, space, and shelter, we are sometimes forced to refuse requests even when our hearts say yes. Knowing that a Nandi Maharaj and cow mother might suffer simply because help could not reach in time is extremely difficult.
For me to reach them in time and save their lives, I urgently need an ambulance. The number of animals needing help is rising every day, but donations are very limited. The need is great, and the support is not enough.
I cannot walk this path alone. I need your help.
MahaShivratri is the sacred day of Lord Shiva, but it is also the day of Nandi Maharaj. By supporting this seva at Shri Siddharth Gaushala, you are not just helping us, you are seeking the blessings of Bhole Baba himself.
As you offer your prayers to Mahadev, I request you to also stand for Nandi Maharaj and cow mother. Your support can help provide timely rescue, food, medicine, and shelter to those who have been abandoned, injured and are suffering.
Celebrate this Shivratri not just with rituals but compassion.”
