Project:
Somewhere on the streets, abandoned and unheard, there are people who were once someone’s family and responsibility. But today, they are left behind, not because they are all mentally ill, but because life dealt them cruelty they couldn’t fight alone.
At Har Prabh Sewa Sansthan, founder Har Prabh gently shares a truth that shakes you: “Out of 100 people here, only about 10% are mentally ill. The rest are victims of circumstances- beaten by their families, abused, or simply abandoned.” What society calls “madness” is often just pain, rejection, and neglect.
Lovingly called “Prabhu” or “Pyara” by those he shelters, Har Prabh has built more than just a foundation, he has built a home. A home that today houses nearly 1,500 members, where over 600 patients have already been treated and reunited with their families. For the past 15 years, he has dedicated every single day of his life to rescuing and healing the abandoned. At 70 years old, he still stands strong – never taking a day off, never choosing comfort over compassion. “This is the place I’ve given my life to… and my final journey will begin from here,” he says with quiet determination.
To the people here, he is not just a caretaker, he is family. They love and respect him the way a child loves a parent. But his compassion didn’t stop there.
When the children of these abandoned individuals were denied school admissions due to lack of identity documents, he refused to let their future be erased. He started a school within the foundation itself – giving these underprivileged children not just education, but dignity, hope and a future.
What once began with meals for 100 people has now grown into feeding nearly 650 mouths every day. And while the need keeps growing, the resources are falling painfully short.
The shelter is broken, food supplies are uncertain, medical expenses are overwhelming and yet, every day, more helpless souls arrive at their doors.
This is not just a shelter anymore – it is a lifeline for those who have no one left. Today, they need us. Your support can provide food to the hungry, medicines to the sick, treatment to the forgotten, and a safe space to those who have been cast aside by the world.
Together, we can help Har Prabh continue his legacy and bring back smiles on faces that have forgotten what hope feels like.
