Project:

In a quiet corner of India stands a place that redefines the meaning of family, Nityanand Aashram. It’s not just a shelter; it’s a heartbeat for hundreds of souls who were once left behind by the world. Here, stories begin not with birth, but with rebirth, of hope, dignity, and belonging.

Every corner of the Aashram tells a story. There’s little one, just three months old, found wrapped in a torn blanket near a temple gate. There’s Amma, 82, abandoned by her own children after a lifetime of sacrifice.

And there’s a young boy once begging at traffic signals, now going to school for the first time in his life. Each one has a different story, but the same longing, to be loved, to be seen, to be cared for.

The founder of Nityanand Aashram says softly, “Some people call this place an orphanage or an old age home. But for us, it’s a family, where the young call the old ‘Dadi’ and the old call the young ‘Beta.’ We’ve all lost something, but together, we’ve found a reason to smile again.”

What makes Nityanand Aashram extraordinary is not just the compassion it offers, but the dignity it restores. The elderly are not treated as a burden; they are cared for with love and respect.

Children who were once wandering the streets now play freely, eat wholesome meals, and sleep peacefully under a roof that protects them

But behind these smiles lies a quiet struggle. The Aashram survives solely on donations and goodwill. Every day, they fight to provide three meals, medicines, adult diapers for the elderly, clothes for the children, and medical care for those who are frail.

The founder shares with folded hands, “It breaks my heart when we have to choose between buying milk for the babies or medicines for the grandmothers. Both are equally precious to us.”

The rooms are small but filled with warmth. Volunteers come and go, bringing food, clothes, and sometimes just a few hours of laughter. For many residents, this is the only family they’ve ever known.

The Aashram is also working hard to expand its space, a better building, a clean kitchen, and more beds are urgently needed. “Sometimes when it rains,” says one caretaker, “the roof leaks, but still, no one complains. They say, ‘At least we have a roof, at least we are not alone.’”

Nityanand Aashram stands as a living reminder that humanity still breathes among us. It’s a place where the young learn compassion and the old rediscover peace. But to keep this home alive, they need your support, for food, medicines, adult diapers, and a safer space to shelter more souls.

Because every little one deserves milk. Every Amma deserves warmth. And everyone deserves a future.

“We can’t change the past,” the founder says, looking around at his big, unconventional family, “but together, we can give them a tomorrow worth living.”
