The news of Suchitra’s pregnancy made the entire family ecstatic. Suchitra and Monu were going to be parents for the very first time. Choosing their baby’s names became their favourite pastime but as the 6th month of pregnancy approached, all their joy turned into fear of losing their child.
“My wife suddenly started to bleed, it was too early for anything to happen and it scared us to death. When we reached the hospital, doctors assured us that they could help and the bleeding stopped. But just a few weeks later, Suchi started to bleed again and this time, things got extremely terrifying and serious” -Monu, father
Prematurely born, the baby needs NICU to survive
Suchitra fainted, and on evaluation, her haemoglobin was down to 4. Doctors immediately had to do a cesarian to save the baby, leading to premature birth. The baby is extremely underweight and his lungs are underdeveloped as well. As a result, the little boy struggles to breathe and is currently surviving on mechanical ventilation.
“Right after our baby was born, he was taken to the ICU. When we saw him for the first time, we were terrified. We saw how fragile he was and we were scared to even touch him. My wife, she just couldn’t bear the sight of our child being in such a condition. ” – Monu, father
Struggling to take every breath
“My heart aches looking at him in this condition, struggling to even breathe. I am scared to hold him in my arms and kiss him, he is so weak. If something happens to him, I can’t live…” -Suchitra, unable to continue
While Suchitra is worried about her child, her condition is also very critical. With the sudden decrease in haemoglobin, she needs blood transfusions to recover. Currently, she is not just fighting to survive, but also fighting for a reason to survive- her child’s health.
Just a daily wager, this father struggles to save his child
Monu feels cursed to be in such a situation where he is helpless in saving his child. This baby is their first and they are terrified to lose him because of their inability to afford the treatment.
“I am just a daily wage labourer. I earn Rs 300 a day which is nowhere enough to save my child. He needs 2 months of treatment and I can’t even afford one day’s medical expense. I don’t know what to do…” -Monu, father
The baby needs prolonged NICU and supportive care for at least 8 weeks to recover. He needs to gain weight and needs treatment to fully develop his lungs, but the cost of the entire treatment is something these parents cannot afford. The treatment will cost them more than 8 lakh rupees, an amount this poor labourer can never arrange.
“I borrowed 40 thousand rupees in advance from my employers for work that I haven’t done yet. I am failing to arrange more and even if I do, I can never repay it. I desperately need help to save my child. All I want is to take my wife and my child, both of them safe back home.” -Monu, father
Without the NICU care, the baby won’t be able to make it. Help these parents save their newborn baby. Your generous contribution can help them.
