For the past ten years, Smile Roti Bank, founded by Azad Pandey, has stood as a refuge for lives the world chose to abandon. Across India, countless mentally distressed and emotionally broken individuals are left to suffer on the streets. They are misunderstood, abused, beaten, and stripped of their dignity. Many are seen wandering helplessly, carrying wounds that are not just physical, but deeply psychological.

At Smile Roti Bank, these forgotten souls are not treated as burdens. They are rescued, fed, cared for, and are treated as their own.

Each person brought into the shelter carries a story of unimaginable pain. Some have walked hundreds of kilometers in confusion and trauma. Some have crossed borders from neighboring countries, separated from their identities, and families. Years of neglect have left many unable to trust another human being, making every rescue, every conversation, and every step toward healing a delicate process.

Yet Azad Pandey continues this mission with patience, compassion, and unwavering humanity. In many cases, Smile Roti Bank has successfully reunited individuals with their families. But for those who have no one left, Azad becomes their family. This shelter becomes their home, a place where they can finally sleep without fear, eat with dignity, and begin their journey toward mental and physical rehabilitation.

Today, however, this life-changing mission is facing a critical challenge. The shelter is running out of funds and space. The growing number of sensitive rescue cases requires better shelter arrangements, medicines, counselling support, and safe spaces for recovery. There is also an urgent need for an ambulance to rescue highly vulnerable individuals quickly and safely from the streets, especially those in severe mental distress or medical emergencies.
