Project:
Dev Diwali, celebrated on 5th November, is one of the most sacred and spiritually uplifting days in Hinduism and Sikhism. It marks the time when the divine lights of the heavens descend to bless the Earth. It is said that any act of daan (charity) performed on this day reaches directly to one’s ancestors and deities (devas), bringing immense blessings and peace to the donor and their family. Similarly, Guru Purab, celebrated in the same period, emphasizes the teachings of selfless service, compassion, and devotion—values that align deeply with the work of Pooja Sharma and her Bright The Soul Foundation.
Pooja Sharma has dedicated her life to a cause few dare to undertake — performing the cremation rituals of unidentified and abandoned dead bodies. For her, this is not just an act of humanity but a sacred duty — ensuring that every departed soul finds dignity in death, even when the world has forgotten them. Each day, Pooja and her small team of volunteers receive calls from hospitals, police stations, and public places about unclaimed bodies. Without hesitation, she takes on the responsibility to perform their final rites according to religious customs, giving them a respectful farewell.
Her foundation, Bright The Soul, functions purely on public donations and goodwill. The expenses of wood, kafan ka kapda (funeral cloth), hawan samagri (ritual materials), and transportation are all borne by the foundation. Pooja believes that when we help someone reach their eternal peace, we cleanse our own souls and accumulate immense blessings — not only for ourselves but for our ancestors too.
On this Dev Diwali and Guru Purab, contributing to this noble cause is considered one of the highest forms of charity. The scriptures say that acts of compassion performed on these days are multiplied manifold in their spiritual reward. By donating even a small amount, or by sponsoring items like wood for the pyre, cloth for the body, or ritual essentials, one can play a role in helping a forgotten soul find liberation.
As the sacred lamps of Dev Diwali illuminate the ghats and homes across India, and hymns of Guru Purab fill the air with devotion, let us also light the lamp of compassion in our hearts. Let us honor the departed, serve humanity, and bring peace to those souls who left this world alone.
Your donation to Pooja Sharma’s Bright The Soul Foundation is not just a material contribution — it is an act of divine service. It reaches the heavens and the hearts of those who need it most. This Dev Diwali and Guru Purab, let your offering become a bridge between your soul, your ancestors, and the divine.
Donate today — for those who cannot ask, for those who deserve dignity, and for your own spiritual upliftment.
