Project:
Winter looks magical in the mountains. Snow-covered roads, silent forests, soft white blankets over rooftops, it feels peaceful, beautiful, almost like a dream. But for many forgotten souls, winter is not beautiful. It is cruel. It is deadly. And for the thousands of stray dogs in the freezing streets of Manali, it is a slow, painful fight to survive.
While tourists sip hot chocolate and take pictures of the snowfall, innocent dogs curl up in the snow, their bodies shaking uncontrollably, trying to hold onto warmth that doesn’t exist. Temperatures drop far below freezing. The ground turns to ice. Wind cuts through their thin, matted fur. Many of them don’t make it through the night.
Manali Strays Foundation exists because of this harsh reality.
Every winter, their rescue teams walk through icy lanes, under street lamps and through snowstorms, searching for dogs who are freezing to death. Dogs whose bodies are stiff from the cold. Dogs are too weak to cry. Dogs who have stopped moving because their energy has been drained by hunger, injury, and freezing temperatures.
Some of the most heartbreaking rescues are of tiny puppies found sitting beside their mothers, mothers who froze to death trying to keep their babies warm with their own bodies. Puppies trembling, confused, crying silently, waiting for warmth that will never come. These are not rare stories. These are real, repeated tragedies.
What makes winter even more brutal is that most of the dogs rescued are already injured. Open wounds become infected faster in the damp cold. Maggots form inside untreated wounds. Bones soften. Skin rots. Pain multiplies. And without urgent rescue, these dogs die slowly, silently, and invisibly.
This is where Manali Strays fights back.
They have built a shelter of hope in the middle of freezing chaos. They provide emergency rescue, warm bedding, dry shelter, medical treatment, and food to dogs who would otherwise freeze alone. They run on compassion, determination, and a deep refusal to let these innocent lives be lost unnoticed.
But despite their tireless efforts, they cannot reach them all.
There are still countless dogs shivering in the snow. Still puppies buried in corners of streets. Still injured, broken bodies lying under parked cars. The truth is, the need is far greater than their current resources.
They desperately need bigger shelters. More heaters. More blankets. More warm food. More medicine. More hands. And they need funds to make this possible. Without support, they cannot save more lives.
Without help, more dogs will freeze before rescues can reach them. Your support is not just charity, it is warmth. It is survival. It is the difference between life and a silent death in the snow.
This winter, you can become part of their rescue mission. You can help build bigger shelters, buy heaters, provide medical care, and feed hungry, shaking souls.
Because no dog deserves to freeze to death alone. And because Manali Strays cannot do it without you.
