Where the Forgotten Are Finally Seen

For many of the women at St. Alphonsa Karunalayam, life has been a long journey of pain. They have lived through years of neglect, hunger, illness, and loneliness.

Some were once mothers, caregivers, and pillars of their families. Others worked silently all their lives, only to be forgotten when their bodies grew weak.

When age, sickness, pregnancy, or HIV made survival harder, many were left behind. Abandoned by families. Abandoned by society.

Some were even abandoned by their own children. With no place to go, many of these women ended up on the streets, carrying not just physical suffering, but deep emotional wounds.

This is where St. Alphonsa Karunalayam became more than a shelter. It became home. Here, the women receive food, medical care, safety, and dignity.

But more than that, they receive presence, someone who listens, someone who stays. Thomas, who leads this home with quiet compassion, believes that no life is beyond hope.

Even when the world has turned its back, he chooses to look closer. To care. To remain.

There are times when children, too, are left behind,  when families break, and innocence is lost far too early. Here, they are not treated as burdens, but as lives worth protecting.
