Why Would Anyone Eat Dog Meat When There Is So Much To Eat In The World?

Imagine sitting down for a meal and finding dog meat served on your dining table. The very thought is enough to shake anyone to their core. The fear, the disgust, the heartbreak- because dogs are not food, they are innocent souls capable of love, loyalty, and trust.

Yet for more than 100 rescued dogs, this horrifying fate was once a terrifying reality. At certain places in the North East, these voiceless animals were being trapped and pushed into the brutal dog meat trade. The cruelty they suffered is beyond words. JBF Trust’s very first rescue in a remote hilly region still haunts everyone who witnessed it. From a distance, desperate howls echoed through the hills. As the team moved closer, the horrifying truth unfolded- dozens of dogs had their mouths tied shut so tightly with rope that they could barely breathe. Many were stuffed inside sacks, trembling in fear, waiting for slaughter.

For them, this was never just about rescue. It was about pulling innocent dogs out of unbearable cruelty. Coming from the North East, where such things have often been said in hurtful ways, this mission touched them on a deeply personal level. What was once just fake mockery and an insult for North East people has now turned into a fight against this brutal and illegal trade. Beyond the cruelty, the consumption of dog meat also carries serious health risks and can even contribute to dangerous pandemic-like outbreaks.

For 23 years, not a single day has passed when JBF Trust has stopped showing up for these animals. Every day, more dogs arrive- rescued from sacks, cages, streets, and slaughter routes. Every dog carries trauma, fear, wounds, and hunger.

But love alone cannot fill empty bowls. JBF are somehow able to provide their morning feed without funds but when night falls, the heartbreaking question remains: How will they feed them again?
