Project:
This Women’s Day, let us honor the courage, compassion, and strength of Pooja Sharma, the remarkable woman behind Bright The Soul Foundation. In a society where the last rites of the dead are often seen as the responsibility of men, Pooja Sharma broke barriers and redefined humanity through her selfless service. For the last five years, she has dedicated her life to performing the cremation of unidentified and abandoned dead bodies, ensuring that no soul leaves this world without dignity, prayers, and respect. Until now, she has performed the last rites of more than 5,000 bodies, a service that is not only extraordinary but deeply emotional and spiritually powerful.
Pooja Sharma’s journey began from a place of personal tragedy. When her own brother lost his life in an accident, there was no male member in the family willing to step forward to perform his cremation rituals. At that painful moment, Pooja gathered immense courage and performed all the rituals herself. That experience changed her life forever. It made her realize the silent suffering of those souls who leave this world with no one to claim them, no family to mourn them, and no hands to perform their final rites. From that day onward, Pooja made a life-changing decision: she would stand for every unidentified body as a daughter, as a sister, and as a mother.
Through Bright The Soul Foundation, Pooja Sharma has become a ray of hope for countless departed souls. Her work is not merely social service; it is an act of deep humanity and devotion. While many turn away from such heartbreaking responsibilities, Pooja steps forward with compassion and dignity. She ensures that every abandoned body is given proper cremation with respect, prayers, and the rituals they deserve. Her service reminds us that true womanhood is not just about strength in words, but about courage in action.
Her extraordinary work has also been recognized at the national level. Pooja Sharma was honored with the title of “Most Inspiring 100 Women of India” by BBC, a recognition that reflects the powerful impact of her dedication and sacrifice. She has become a symbol of fearless service and an inspiration to women across the country.
However, despite her tireless efforts, Bright The Soul Foundation is struggling to raise funds for the materials required to continue this sacred mission. Every cremation requires essential items such as hawan samagri, kafan ka kapda, wood, and other ritual materials. Without support, it becomes increasingly difficult for the foundation to continue serving the abandoned and unidentified dead with the dignity they deserve.
This Women’s Day, supporting Pooja Sharma means supporting a woman who has chosen humanity over fear, service over comfort, and compassion over silence. Her mission is not just about cremation—it is about restoring dignity to those who have none left to stand for them. Let us come together to support Bright The Soul Foundation and help Pooja continue this noble work. In honoring the forgotten dead, she is teaching the world the true meaning of humanity.
