Project:
In the sacred city of Vrindavan, thousands of elderly women, known lovingly as “Matajis,” live in desperate conditions, hoping for compassion and support from kind-hearted devotees. These Matajis, many of whom were abandoned by their families after the passing of their husbands, now endure lives of deep hardship and loneliness. Without family support or financial stability, they find themselves struggling for the very basics—shelter, food, and electricity, relying entirely on the generosity of pilgrims and well-wishers.
For most of these Matajis, daily survival depends on small offerings received from passersby near temples, or they earn a meager amount, sometimes just 10 rupees, for hours spent singing bhajans in ashrams. Despite their tireless devotion, these Matajis often go to bed on empty stomachs, unable to afford a decent meal, let alone a warm room or clothing.
This Diwali, as we prepare to celebrate with lights, sweets, and joy, these Matajis will likely remain in the shadows, their only hope being that a kind soul will remember them in their festivities. Without help, the most they can expect is a handful of coins or a few bites of prasad. They dream of someone gifting them new clothes, sweets, or even just a warm meal. A simple act of kindness can bring them immense happiness and a momentary escape from their hardships.
True Hope Foundation is reaching out with a heartfelt appeal. With thousands of Matajis in need, we cannot do this alone. By contributing, you enable us to provide food, clothing, and essential items to these Matajis who, with your help, can feel the warmth and joy of the festival. Together, let us spread the light of kindness and make this Diwali brighter for the forgotten Matajis of Vrindavan.
