A Massive Tumour Has Left This 23-Year-Old Yearning For A Normal Life

“When Arvind was born, he had a small lump. Doctors said it was just an extra piece of tissue and wouldn’t harm him at all. But as he grew, the lump grew too. We went to so many hospitals, but no one was willing to operate on it. We didn’t lose hope and kept looking for an answer. When Arvind was 9, AIIMS Delhi said they could operate on him when he turned 18. We’ve waited and saved all these years, but still, the treatment is out of our reach.”- Kusham Devi, mother

With constant pain and feeling of helplessness, Arvind nearly ended his life

Arvind Kumar, a young 23-year-old man, has faced a lifetime of challenges due to a medical condition he was born with. Arvind’s condition, plexiform neurofibromatosis, has severely impacted his life. The tumour has grown to a point where it prevents him from walking, working, sleeping, and performing basic daily activities.

“He has never been to school whereas all his siblings have at least completed their schooling. He has always felt left out and it took a toll on his mental health. The constant pain and helplessness have made my son suffer depression so much so that it ended up leading him to attempt suicide.”- Veerapal Singh

Family failing to save Arvind, despite having a solution

Veerpal Singh, works as a milkman, while his mother, Kusham Devi, is a housewife. Arvind has two brothers- Himanshu and Deepak who are labourers and a sister Neha who is unemployed. With a collective income of not more than 35000 rupees a month, they are struggling to afford the treatment.

“The surgeries all together would cost us 18L rupees, which is far beyond our means. We did save up all these years but it is nowhere near to this. I had saved up 1.2 lakh rupees, my life savings and that too has gone into Arvind’s initial treatments. We are failing to give him a proper life to live despite having a solution.” -Veerpal

“Arvind can’t do anything on his own, he needs help with everything. It breaks my heart to see him suffer so much. He used to be so full of life, but now he just lies there, unable to move. He’s lost hope, and that scares me the most. Now that we finally have a way to save him, we are unable to provide him the treatment. We need help to save our son.“- Kusham Devi

This family’s financial situation is dire. Their income is barely enough to cover their daily expenses, let alone an expensive surgery. The family is now reaching out to the community, hoping to raise the necessary funds for Arvind’s surgery and give him a chance at a normal life.
